This is one of my favorite arrangements – Tulips!! Growing up in a flower business, I saw a huge range of floral design. This range was so broad because of the talent of so many designers. In my opinion, after the introduction of flowers in the grocery stores, the emphasis on floral design diminished. Professionally designed floral designs, arrangements or artwork incorporate the elements of floral design: line, form, space, texture, and color, and the principles of floral design: balance, proportion, rhythm, contrast, harmony, and unity. (Book of Floral Terminology, AIFD) Floral design is an art. In art, there are many genres. My goal is to introduce the florists that created the different floral designs. The floral industry has gone through so much change! I am concentrating on my hometown of Mobile, AL. For this journey, I am not looking at the population or economic situation of Mobile. I am focusing on the flower shops listed for Mobile, Alabama. Phase Two will focus on designers. I am excited to begin this phase. It will give me a chance to connect with old friends, and hopefully create new ones. What’s the difference between flower arrangement and a floral design? Is there a difference? These are questions I am dying to ask my designer friends! Due to Covid issues, I am reiterating last week’s post. I hope to be able to interview people really soon. Thanks for your support.
