Send a party to the Birthday Person!!
Show the Birthday Person a great way to celebrate the day! A centerpiece of mixed flowers, in a festive Top Hat with Party Blowers, is a way to get the party started!
          You Will Need:
                   Mixed Bouquet of Fresh Flowers
                   Greenery
                   Decorative Container (Top Hat)
Small Bowl to Fit the Container
                   Floral  Foam
                   Waterproof Floral Tape
                   Party Favor Blowers
                   4” Wooden Picks
                   Floral Wrap Tape

Begin by preparing the containers. Cut a piece of floral foam to fit the smaller bowl. Soak the foam until saturated. Place the foam in the smaller bowl and secure with the waterproof floral tape. Place the smaller bowl in the container. If the bowl is below the rim of the decorative container, raise the smaller bowl by placing a DRY piece of floral foam in the container and place the smaller bowl on the dry floral foam. Make sure the smaller bowl is slightly below the rim of the decorative container. Place pieces of greenery around the floral foam, allowing the greenery to rest along the rim of the decorative container.
Place the tallest focal flower at the center of the floral foam covered with greenery. Place a second focal flower shorter and to the right of the tallest flower. Place a third focal flower to the left and shorter the second flower. Place secondary flowers throughout the focal flowers, making sure that these blooms are shorter than the focal flowers. Place filler flowers throughout the arrangement, shorter than the blooms already in the arrangement. Place pieces of filler flowers close to the floral foam – this adds depth to the floral design.

When watering the centerpiece, take the smaller bowl out of the decorative container and fill with water. After the water has absorbed into the floral foam, replace the arrangement in the decorative container. Enjoy!

Freshen the table by adding a simple bright centerpiece.
A simple arrangement of miniature carnations, alstroemeria, and greenery are brightened with loops of Red, White, and Blue ribbon. Add cool water to the design to freshen the flowers
          You Will Need:
                   Miniature Carnations
                   Alstroemeria
                   Assorted Greenery
                   Small Bowl
                    Floral Foam
                   Waterproof Floral Tape
                   4” Wooden Picks
#3 (½”) Ribbon in Red, White and Blue
                   Floral Wrap Tape

Begin the arrangement by preparing the container. Cut the floral foam to fit the bowl. Soak the foam until totally saturated. Tape the waterproof tape across the top of the foam in a crisscross pattern. Fill the container with water.
I began designing this arrangement by placing small pieces of greenery in the floral foam covering the foam.
Take a stem of alstroemeria and remove the greenery from near the blooms, careful not to damage the bloom. Cut the stem close to the bloom branches.  Continue this process on two additional stems of alstroemeria. Place these three stems in the wet foam, creating a triangle. The alstroemeria will be close to the foam.
Take a stem of miniature carnations and cut it to be a little taller than the alstroemeria. Place this stem in the center of the foam. Add additional stems of miniature carnations to the alstroemeria, making sure that they are taller than the alstroemeria. Pay attention that the miniature carnations fill the sides of the container.
Create a bow in the arrangement. Begin by making two loops of ribbon. Secure these loops with the 4” wooden picks. Cover with floral wrap tape. I usually start with 7 picks of loops. I also make 4 wooden picks with a single loop and a streamer. Place the streamer loops close to the rim of the container. Add the other loops to the center of the container close to the floral foam. Adding more picks of ribbon loops makes the bow fuller.  Enjoy!

When the pool is too cold to swim – it can still look inviting!!
Create a beautiful setting for an evening party by the pool. Decorate the pool even though the water is too cold to swim. This makes a gorgeous backdrop for your guests!
                      You will Need:
                                  Child’s Float Ring
Small Bowl to Fit Center Ring
                                  Floral Foam
                                  Waterproof Floral Tape
                                  LED Pillar Candles
                                  6” Wood Picks
                                  Fishing Line
                                  Fishing Weight
                                  Mixed Bouquet of Fresh Flowers
                                  Baby’s Breath

Surround the edge of the pool with LED candles resting in rings of Baby’s Breath. To make the Baby’s Breath Rings, follow the directions in the post of July 19, 2018.
Choose a color palate to compliment your party theme. I like balance, this helps to complete the picture. I created 2 arrangements in floating rings to place at each end of the pool. I love the light of the candles reflected in the water. To produce these arrangements, follow the instructions in the post of July 26, 2018. Remember to make the fishing weights heavy enough to keep the arrangements from floating far. The water in the pool still has movement, try to keep the arrangements in one area. Enjoy!

Dozen Roses for Mom . . .

As Mother’s Day approaches, select the correct vase to arrange a dozen roses for Mom!
For guidance in arranging a dozen roses, refer to the post of February 8, 2018 in the Archives of Techniques4Flowers. As you are gathering your products, it is important to choose the correct products. I have shared tips on selecting the best stages of the opening of the flower. Another consideration is the size of the vase that is used.
            You will need:
                      Dozen Long Stemmed Roses
                      Tall Rose Vase
Floral Waterproof Tape – ¼” wide
                      12  18” #20 gage Florist Wire
                      5-6 Stems Greenery
                      Bow
When arranging a dozen roses, be sure to select a vase that is large enough to stabilize the roses and provide adequate water. The height of the vase should be   1 ½ times the height of the stem of a rose. In my opinion, it is best to use a glass vase. The weight of the glass vase helps to steady the arrangement
Vases of this size hold a large amount of water. Be sure to add floral preservative to the water. Check the water often. It is surprising how quickly flowers drink water. There are many factors that contribute to the waterline falling. As flowers like coolness, make sure the vase has enough water. Remember that air conditioners absorb moisture in the air.  If the water in the vase is clear, it is not necessary to empty the old water. Add cool water to the vase. Enjoy!

Mother’s Day “Breakfast in Bed” tray is decorated with a Rose Budvase!
A simple budvase of roses add a hint of color and fragrance to Mother’s Day “Breakfast in Bed” tray. The budvase can be filled with miniature Spray Roses or a single Rosebud. Stabilize the budvase by adding glass marbles to the bottom of the vase. Just a touch to make Mom feel extra special!
                  You Will Need:
                            Rose Budvase
                            Roses
                            Glass Marbles
                            Floral Preservative
Begin by processing the roses. This may be a single rose or multiple stems of miniature spray roses. Cut the stems underwater, treated with floral preservative, and place them in a cooler bucket to drink water. Be sure to remove any leaves that may be below the water line of the budvase.
Prepare the budvase, make sure it is clean. Add a small layer of marbles to the bottom of the vase. Add water, also treated with floral preservative, to the budvase. Add the tallest rose stem to the vase. Add a few more marbles to the budvase. Arrange additional roses to fill the badvase. When using a single rose bud, follow the same procedure using the marbles.
When carrying a tray, try to place the budvase in a position on the tray where your hand can steady it. Happy Mother’s Day !!
