Valentine’s Day is associated with Roses!!
This is an arrangement of tea roses in a small antique pitcher. This is a perfect centerpiece for breakfast in bed.
When someone mentions Valentine’s Day, most people picture Roses. To me, the most popular are long stem roses arranged in one dozen, half dozen, or bud vases of 3 roses or a single rose.
Many do not realize roses come in many varieties. Some other varieties are miniature roses and tea roses. These are smaller blooms. Miniature roses are single blooms on each stem. Tea roses are multiple blooms of the miniature rose on a stem.
When deciding on a Valentine’s Day gift, look at many sources. Sources are widely available. There are flowers in many retail stores, especially at holidays.
Visit a local florist. There are many ideas and suggestions for flowers in different price points. Many florists have varieties and flowers distinctly unique. The Florist is very knowledgeable.

A modern arrangement of roses replicates a handheld bouquet.
A new fashion in rose arrangements is the handheld design. This design is created by arranging the roses in your hand as you would a bouquet. After the bouquet is created, the stems are cut to fit the vase. These roses were accented by Silver Dollar eucalyptus. A simple tied bow was added to the center of the vase.
There are many possibilities to look at when arranging flowers. The internet is a great source, but another source is one’s local florist. Look for local designers and visit the florists. The arrangements may be fresh or artificial. Many florists have wonderful designs showcased in their shops.

Roses for Romance . . .

On Valentine’s Day, all eyes are on the recipient of a rose delivery at one’s place of employment.
Since times of mythology, roses were believed to be created as symbol of love. In Greek and Roman mythology, roses were associated with beauty and love. William Shakespeare referred to roses in “Romeo and Juliet”.
Individuals of the Victorian Era were deeply fascinated with the language of flowers. They used flowers to express their feelings. Flowers were given on Birthdays and other special occasions. Roses were expressions of emotions and feelings. Red Roses were representations of a passionate and intimate manner of love. In recent times, red roses still represent love and romance.
In the language of flowers, the number of roses in an arrangement has special messages. An arrangement of one dozen signifies the message “Be Mine”. An arrangement of two dozen roses means “ I’m Yours ”.

Pink alstromeria is wonderful flower to brighten the days!
Arrange the alstromeria in a loose cluster. Alstromeria is a long lasting lily.  Here are a few suggestions that helps the arrangement last longer.
Select blooms that are in may stages. Look for stems with open blooms and some                 buds not totally open.
Remove pollen from the stamen as the blooms opens.
Remove any leaves that would be beneath the water level.
Add cold water to fill the vase.
Check the condition of the water often, change if the water becomes cloudy.
Enjoy!

Create a flower cooler by placing flowers in an open ice chest !
As the new year begins, the Holiday decorations are coming down, and the weather is getting colder. Fresh flowers are a great way to brighten the surroundings. Make your fresh blooms last longer by following the steps used by florists.
Let’s look at those steps:
       Select fresh blooms.
       Cut flower stems underwater.
Place cut stems in warm water.
       Allow flowers to drink overnight.
Place in cooler for 24 hours.
Arrange flowers and fill container with water.
Keep water in container clean by changing water frequently.
Look for flowers that have bright green leaves, blooms, and some blooms that are still in the bud stage. Centers of the blooms should be firm. Outer petals should have very few blemishes.
Cut the stems of the flowers underwater in warm water conditioned with floral preservative. Place the cut flowers in a clean container filled with warm water, also with floral preservative. Allow the flowers to drink in a warm area at least overnight.

In flower shops, after the flowers have drank overnight, the containers are placed in a cooler for about 24 hours. Temperature is about 37 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This can be simulated by placing the containers in open ice chests with a bag of ice. Place the flowers in a cooler place. Allow the flowers to remain in the cooling area about 24 hours. Add more ice if needed to keep the water cool.
Arrange the flowers in a container of your choice. Make sure the water used for the arrangement is conditioned with floral preservative. Place the arrangement in a place away from warm drafts. Check the water every couple of days to make sure the water is not contaminated by bacteria. When changing the water, replace with cold water conditioned with floral preservative.
